CPE/CSC 480 Artificial Intelligence Fall 2004

CPE/CSC 480 Artificial Intelligence Connecting to Counties Systems

The counties system is the cluster of Sun machines in 14-232. In order to remotely login to one of those machines, e.g. via ssh, you need to specify one specific machine in the cluster, e.g. sanluis, sonoma, yuba, alameda, ... Trying to connect to "counties" directly doesn't work.

If you're trying to log in from outside of the calpoly.edu domain (e.g. from home through cable or DSL), the Cal Poly firewall may prevent direct access. In this case, you can log into hornet or falcon first (they have a "pinhole" through the firewall), and then into one of the counties machines.

Note: In the F04 quarter, the lab 14-232 won't be available initially. While those Sun machines are not up, it is possible to use your team accounts by directly connecting to the counties server (the individual accounts will be set up after the machines in 14-232 have been installed).

Here is a sample session:
fkurfess@Zweistein:~ 311 >ssh falcon.csc.calpoly.edu
Last login: Mon Oct 11 15:26:04 2004 from adsl-66-122-73-
*************** Welcome to Falcon and Hornet **************

fkurfess@falcon:~ 100 > ssh -l team_8fk counties
team_8fk@counties's password:
Last login: Mon Oct 11 15:26:15 2004 from falcon.csc.calp
Sun Microsystems Inc. SunOS 5.9 Generic May 2002
