Azeem's Page
Welcome to my homepage, my name is Azeem Jiva and I will be your host. If you have stumbled onto my homepage look around you might find something interesting. This web page is being hosted by the Computer Science of CalPoly State University. I was a Computer Science major at California Polytechnic state university in lovely San Luis Obispo. I graduated with my BS in Computer Science.
I was born in Karachi, Pakistan which is at latitude 24 and longitude 67. The majority of my life has been spent in the San Jose/Cupertino area. Since this seems to be a common question, yes I am a Muslim. While I am not as religious as I would like to be, I try as hard as I can. What does it mean to be a Muslim? Well for one besides the misconceptions that exist in the minds of non-Muslims, it also means that I have to watch TV shows, News and other media related events trash Muslims. Since the only thing I can really do is inform people, I figure this is a very good way of doing so. Some misconceptions that exist are that we are a bunch of savage barbarians that have many wives, blow up buildings and run around with long beards carrying AK-47s. To counteract these stereotypes I would like to point out that Muslim scholars were the ones who invented/discovered such advanced concepts as Algebra, the number 0. Not only that but Muslims also pioneered such things as equality for all (irrelevant of skin color, or gender), and were the first people to have women leaders. Something even the USA and European Community have problems with today. Overall Islamic nations have low drug and alochol usage, low teen pregnency rate, and a whole host of issues that other nations are struggling with. Well this is my way of informing people, now onto other things!
The summer after my second year at Poly (1996), I worked at Silicon Graphics Incorporated or SGI as most people call it. The perks were pretty good, donuts or bagels every Tuesday, a free lunch every other Friday. Of course SGI is famous for giving away some pretty cool T-Shirts. While I was just a lowly assembly worker, the job got me valuable experience and most of all money to pay for college. The next summer, I worked at Integrated Systems Incorporated or just ISI . While the perks weren't as good, I learned alot of stuff (including my current love for vi!). Plus I had more responsibilities and of course I was getting paid nicely as well. Well the next year I went back to ISI for another summer (1998). Again my responsiblities (I did development work) increased as had my pay. With my last quarter of college behind me, I went out and got a job at at Sun Microsystems. I am excited, but I will miss my friends and CalPoly in general, but its time to move on.
What do I do in my free time? Well now that I have no homework or tests to worry about, I have lots of free time. Currently though I am working hard and trying to learn alot , but I try to write small programs using my computer.
