Computing, including computer science and software engineering, is the fabric of modern engineering and science and key to the advancement of fields such as medicine, economics, finance, and the many forms of arts and humanities.

Indispensable to modern society, the field is seeking passionate, out-of-the-box thinkers. If you like to be creative with computing technology, Cal Poly's Computer Science Department is for you.

Our "learn by doing" philosophy means that we provide you with a variety of practical, hands-on experiences. You may work with faculty mentors on individual, team-based, or industry-sponsored projects. You can gain real life professional experience through our co-op and internship programs. If you have a competitive streak, join one of our student clubs and compete in regional and national contests.

Our distinguished faculty love teaching and conducting research with students. Small class size is a top priority. We have fourteen specialized computing laboratories for architecture, database, graphics, software development, networking, and operating systems, as well as labs dedicated to undergraduate research projects.

Cal Poly Computer Science and Software Engineering graduates are highly recruited by industry, including: Google, Microsoft, Apple, Yahoo, IBM, SUN, Intel, Intuit, Amgen, Adobe, Salesforce, DreamWorks, Disney, Electronic Arts-EA (and other game companies), Raytheon, Boeing, Cisco, HP, JPL, Saint Jude Medical, Lawrence Livermore National Labs and many-many more.

Also a number of our alums pursue advanced graduate studies (Ph.D degrees, Post-Doctoral training)

We offer cutting-edge curricula that will help you realize your dreams. Join us-we'll ignite your passion.
