Chris ClarkAssistant Professor, Ph.D. Stanford
BioI grew up in Kingston, Ontario and stayed there for my undergraduate education at Queen's University. After graduating, I took a job as a controls engineer consultant at Sterner Automation in Toronto, Ontario. I soon realized I had the academic bug and headed to the University of Toronto , where I received my Master's of Applied Science in June of 1998. I traveled for almost 10 months after getting married to my wife Christine in August of 1998. We had a great time backpacking/climbing in South America, before heading to the Phillipines to visit our family. We then spent 3 months volunteering with in a children's hostel in South India. Finally, we toured around Nepal and Tibet. I studied towards my Ph.D. in the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Stanford University. My primary advisor was Dr. Stephen Rock in the Aerospace Robotics Lab, but I also worked closely with Dr. Jean-Claude Latombe in the Computer Science Department. My research involved developing coordination strategies for groups of autonomous mobile robots. I started working as an Assistant Professor in the department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo. I developed several new courses, including 2 based on autonomous mobile robots. I now work as an Assistant Professor in the department of Computer Science at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. InterestsIf I am not working, I spend almost all of my time hanging out with my family - my wife Christine, our son Jaden and daughter Sequoia. In my spare time I enjoy running, windsurfing, snowboarding, backpacking, basketball and in particular rock-climbing. I have been climbing for many years now. |
